Jarrett Krosoczka

Author/illustrator Jarrett Krosoczka visited Conant School on Monday, March 9, 2015.  Jarrett is best known for his award winning Lunch Lady graphic novel series but has also written and illustrated an assortment of fictional picture books and chapter books.  He gave a large presentation for grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 and also did workshops on writing graphic novels with grade levels 4, 5, and 6.  Our students found the presentations to be inspiring, informative, and entertaining. These are some comments about the day from our enthusiastic fifth graders!

“Jarrett Krosoczka inspired me to use my imagination.”

“I liked how Jarrett Krosoczka showed us how he drew his pictures for his comics.”

“I learned a lot about speech bubbles.  I never knew the framework or space of words could tell me so much about how the characters spoke.”

“I have always wanted to write a book, and after I heard Jarrett Krosoczka’s inspiring speech on how he got rejected so many times but kept going, it inspired me to never give up.”

“I learned to express an emotion in a comic without words!”

“I learned that to write a comic, you must leave mini cliffhangers to keep the reader turning the page and intrigued.”

“I really liked his presentation.  It inspired me to make comic strips.”

“I learned the important elements of a good comic.”

“He really has a sense of humor!

“I was inspired to follow my dreams of becoming an artist.”
