Dear Conant Families and Caregivers,

I know that Winter officially arrives later in the month, but the week or so has definitely felt like it is already here!  It has been cold at drop off, pick up and recess!

At Conant School we go outside for recess on most weather days. Severe cold (below 20 degrees F) and steady rain will keep us indoors for recess, but otherwise we take advantage of the benefits of being able to play and socialize outdoors.

If your parenting experience is anything like mine, you might be realizing only now that the winter layers your child needs for this coming season have all been outgrown! Please consider this a friendly nudge to take some time and ensure your child has the hat, gloves and coat necessary for our New England winter weather. When the snow arrives, snow pants and boots are also a must. Recognizing that all of these items are costly, PLEASE make sure your child’s name is labeled on all items. Unlabeled items have a difficult time making their way back to their owner, but labeled ones are usually hand delivered. If your family is having difficulty acquiring these items due to financial limitations, please connect directly either with our school counselor, Ms. Parsons hparsons@abschools.org or myself toreilly@abschools.org. We will be happy to connect you with local resources that can help.

My very best wishes for a warm, cozy weekend. As always, please let me know if I can support you or your family in any way.

Sincerely,

Tricia O’Reilly

Dear Conant Families,

We are in the midst of the winter season, and we are starting to see an increase in the numbers of students with respiratory illnesses. One of the most effective ways to stop the spread of illness is to stay home when symptomatic, not only to speed recovery, but also also to prevent contagion.

If your child is experiencing frequent coughing, runny nose, sore throat, unexplained fatigue, body aches, diarrhea, vomiting, or fever - please keep your child at home until the symptoms improve. As a reminder, a student has to be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication before being able to return to school.

We encourage you to check-in with your child’s pediatrician for testing or advice/recommendations.

Please notify the school nurse if your child has been diagnosed with any communicable illness (such as Flu, Strep, COVID-19, RSV, etc.). This information is kept confidential and helps us monitor and manage the health of our student body.

We appreciate your assistance in keeping our school community safe and healthy this winter.

And, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Kind regards,
