Summer Math Tune-Ups

Dear Families:

There are numerous ways for your children to maintain their math skills over the summer months. Many of you have ordered the Summer Skills Math BEooks through the Parent Involvement Program (PIP). For those of you who have not bought a review book and would like to do so, you can log on to the http://www.summerskills.com Website and order a copy. In addition to these review books, you may use flash cards to keep math facts sharp, play card games to explore math strategies, and visit math Web sites to work on a variety of math concepts. If you would like other suggestions, the Conant teachers have compiled a list of Web sites and handouts that contain fun math activities to help your children maintain their math skills and keep them engaged in mathematical thinking.

Participation in the Summer Math "Tune-ups" program is voluntary, however, we encourage you to support your child in doing some math work throughout the summer to prevent skill regression. As an incentive for participating in this program, we will award certificates and rulers to those students who bring in parent-signed logs of the time they spent practicing math over the summer. Students will bring home a sample log or you can print out a sample log here. We are trying to make this math program similar to the summer reading program we have had for the past several years.

Please enjoy the outdoors and the joys of summer, but adding math in the mix might be fun, too!

Sincerely,
Conant Administration, Conant School Council, and Conant Math Task Force
