Dear Conant Families,

Spring has finally sprung! At least it is trying to. The next few months will be a whirlwind of activity here at Conant. May MCAS will be upon us shortly, end of the year activities are approaching and soon we'll be looking at class placement for the 2016-2-17 school year. As the weather warms up, please keep in mind that some of the clothing and footwear that keeps children nice and cool at the beach is not appropriate or safe for school. One item of particular note is footwear. Flip flops and open toed sandals are not safe in a school environment. Please ensure your children wear shoes that cover toes and secure at the heel to avoid injury. As the building warms up, it is important for children to have refillable water bottles so that they may stay properly hydrated. Also, light lose clothing will help your children stay comfy and cool.

As we approach spring time, our wonderful PTO begins to set their budget for next year. If you have not yet had the chance to donate to them, please do so. Any amount helps them in their mission to provide outstanding extracurricular experiences for our students, provide unique and exciting materials for classrooms and help fund classroom assistants.

It is hard to believe that we are already thinking about class placement for next year. While on the topic of placement we are happy to let you know we will be adding an additional section of Grade 4 next year. This will have a positive impact on projected high class sizes. We will also have two full day Kindergarten sections and one half-day kindergarten section. The process we utilize this involves meeting with the students’ current teachers and special education personnel to develop the best possible balanced classes for next year. We do feel that we have adequate information to help us create the best classes possible. However, if you would like to offer us your own input, we welcome you to send us a letter or email (dsugrue@abschools.org) with your thoughts on the best learning environment for your child. We do request, however, that you do not name a teacher you’d like your child to have or not have, as this is not productive to the process. Letters that specifically name teachers will be returned to you for editing as we fully appreciate the dedication and talents of all of our educators, and know that every teacher at Conant can and will help every child succeed. Please send in your letters or emails before May 16th in order to include your input into this process. Thank you!

Our students are truly a treasure to us all. The 2015-2016 school year is shaping up to be our best yet. We are thrilled and thankful that you are sharing your children with us here at the Conant School. All that we do is based on making decisions in the best interest of our students. Our main focus as always is educating the whole child, academically, socially and emotionally because the whole child really is the whole idea!

 Sincerely,
